A Letter from a Prospective Student...

The following letter came from a prospective student who REALLY wants to make Julia Landon his middle school home. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'm typing it exactly the way he wrote it.

Dear Duval County School Board Magnet Program choosers;

I am hoping to be one of the many 6th grade students chosen for the Julia Landon Middle new School. My name is Charlie __________ and people consider me as a leader in the following ways:
  • I am usually the team captain when we play football (I noticed you have a football team. By the way from what I hear I'm preety good) in P.E.
  • If my classmates get really loud when the teacher is out of the room, I calm them down by the time the teacher gets back.
  • I stand up for kids being bullied.

Do you like kids who read? Well, each person in my class has the minimum of 25 books to read. I've read 55 6th grade books and passed all of them!

Do you like students with a deep commitment to public service? Just this week I served at the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the homeless.

My school doesn't have a program dedicated to advanced/gifted children. I loved (name of elementary school) but I wanted to go to a full time school with kids learning at my level.

Your soon-to-be- student,

Charlie ____________
